The Be All, End All!

Joeys! This is an absolute HIGHLIGHT! The Baby Kangaroo Rescue in Alice where they educate people about kangaroos and teach the importance of checking for a baby in the pouch of a mama kangaroos that has just been hit by a car.

This HUGE guy (Brolga) explains that he and his girlfriend (Emma)are the only ones to have contact with the joeys (baby kangaroos) when they first get there for weeks to establish their mommy roles. It is the cutest thing to see this big ol guy walking around with little bags for the joeys. When they get tired of hopping around they go to him and he holds out a little bag for them and they jump in head first, then he passes them off for you to hold. They are the absolute cutest things in the world. They are very soft and the for the first hour, I got to hold Brianna. I just sat there holding her against my chest in her little cotton flannel bag. When they want out they start wiggling and Brolga comes over to put them on the ground.

They are allowed the pouch for 10 months, then they are cut off. He then takes them home and they play together in his garden until they are 13, 14 or 15 months old. They then go to a semi-wild place, so they can become accustomed to the dangers of the wild. It is actually a dingo rehab place, so they can be on the other side of the fence with the dingos safely on the other side charging the fence, teaching them that dingoes are bad. Then when they release them in the wild the lesson is learned. I asked how hard is it to release them, he said put it this way "I need a day off after each release".
